The Flop House podcast

Definitely my highest-profile web design project to date, I was thrilled to redesign the website for one of my all-time favorite podcasts, The Flop House. For this project, I decided to code a bespoke WordPress theme. The site’s previous theme contained a number of functionalities and custom post types, which I was able to port into individual plugins, to maximize the site’s compatibility going forward.

On the graphic side of things, I also converted the podcast logo into an SVG image for ease of use, and coordinated branding with visual artist Tony Ochre.

The individual facet of this project I’m probably most proud of was custom-coding plugin to dynamically generate an alphabetical list of all movies covered in hundreds of Flop House episodes. This involves using Regex to extract the movie title from each post title, based on formatting — then I wrote PHP to sort and display the list, as well as keep it up-to-date automatically, whenever a new post goes up.

As happenstance would have it, this was the last major freelance project I completed before starting work at Automattic (which meant I had to give up freelancing so there would be no conflict of interest). It was an incredible opportunity to end that phase of my career on, and I’m still proud of the results!
